The Longboat Key Golf Club-which offers a combined 45 holes of championship golf at its Harbourside and Islandside courses – is the only golf club ( private or otherwise) on all of Longboat Key. Located at 361 Gulf of Mexico Drive ( the most southern tip of LBK ) it offers what all high end courses do…excellent practice facilities, golf school & restaurants.
When I tour clients through Longboat for single family homes and beach and bayside condo’s, the conversation inevitably turns to the future status of the club’s planned renovations. And quite frankly, I’m unsure of the answer. Ever since club management announced its plans for a larger renovation than initially proposed, condo associations and community groups have worried it was too much, that it would increase traffic and take away the community’s character as a quiet low key place to live. The plans are for hundreds of new hotel rooms and condo units, a new clubhouse and fitness center, expanded conference space and a redesign of the golf course.
I would not exclude the Longboat Key area as a home choice option by any means. But I would certainly warn my golfing clients to look for approved and guaranteed plans for the club before they joined . After all, an initiation fee of $50,000 plus is not an amount to be taken lightly.
