Our own Siesta Beach makes Dr. Beach’s top beach list for 2017. Dr. Beach is Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman a coastal expert and professor at Florida International University. There are 50 specifications he uses to evaluate beaches, including water and sand quality, number of sunny days, safety and management. Siesta Beach’s fine, white sand attracts beach lovers from all over the world. He praises the clean, clear waters along with the gradual beach slope of the waters edge as the reason Siesta Key Beach is ideal for swimming. He also mentions that the beach’s size, hundreds of yards wide, attracts fitness fans and volleyball players. Siesta Key’s new pavilion, vendor stands, picnic areas and expanded parking were also duly noted.
