Sarasota Golf Club news : University Park Country Club
May 2017 the current owners of University Park Country Club announced their intention to sell the Country Club, land and related infrastructure. A super majority of University Park residents signed petitions requesting Manatee County Commissioners approve the creation of the University Park Recreation District {UPRD}. At a public hearing on August 2, the Commissioners unanimously (7-0) approved an ordinance for the establishment of UPRD.
On Monday, September 17, University Park residents moved forward to achieve complete community control of the golf and country club as they cast ballots for the first University Park Recreation District {UPRD} Board of Supervisors.
These five chosen board members will serve one-year terms: Beth Bertsch, Nancy Kopnisky, Steve Ludmerer, Michael Smith, and Bob Wood.
Their meetings will soon be announced in advance and open to all UPRD residents and owners. At these meetings, the board will be establishing officers for the UPRD, begin the process of finalizing the agreement with the current owners to purchase the Country Club as well as defining the schedule for the bond referendum, reviewing cost allocation options and other administrative details
The turnover of the homeowner’s association to resident control will be a process that is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2019.
