I returned to one of my favorite courses yesterday…Bradenton. Founded in 1924, this is one of the oldest established clubs in our area. Located in the heart of Bradenton ( 9th Avenue West ) it’s only 15 minutes away from the beaches. Originally a Donald Ross design, but the course was re-done by Ron Garl in the late 90’s.
My playing partners and I really enjoy playing here. I can’t really put my finger on why. It’s not in perfect condition ( or at least not yesterday ) but the layout always seems fun. Maybe it’s the old time design. As an example, when you leave the first hole, you turn south to a par three with a church steeple in the background as your target line. I mean, c’mon…but I do have one complaint…it’s only 18 holes. Because we play year round golf in Florida, there will be times when the full course (or at least 9 holes ) will need to be closed for maintenance or outright renovation. So that’s a problem…but they do have reciprocal play with over a dozen other clubs from May to October when any major repairs would likely occur.
Fabulous deal here. Join for $5000 with no assessments. Monthly’s are $476 and there is a modest yearly minimum. Lot’s for the kids and non golfing spouse to do. There’s tennis, a pool, fitness area as well as social events for members and their guests. There is no specific community that is a part of the club. Just homes of different price ranges and styles that surround the perimeter. Call me if you want samples e-mailed to you of whats currently available.
